Here are some questions for you Talladega fans:

  • Does being for sale by Rick Hendricks add value to the car?
  • Does being the next to last Talladega built add desirability or value to the car?
  • How much does the gloss black hood detract from the value?
  • Does anyone know of the past history of the car?
  • Read the description in the add carefully, do you think this is a numbers matching car?
  • If not, how does that impact the price if at all?

Some of my first and strongest memories from my childhood relate to cars. I still remember when things happened based on what car I was driving at the time. I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California and now live in Tennessee. I was a Corvette fanatic for years but then re-discovered vintage American Muscle. My wife, Katrina, and I decided we wanted to focus on unique and rare muscle cars. After a lot of research we fell in love with the Ford Blue Oval Aero Cars. These were only built in 1969 and and aerodynamics became an important part of winning races. The only purpose of these limited production cars was to win NASCAR races using the Boss 429 and 427 power plants complimented with a special, wind cheating, aerodynamic body. The Ford Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II are terrific and historic cars. This site is devoted to these car and their owners past and present. We provide an Online Registry for recording the long term history and ownership of every remaining Talladega, Spoiler and Spoiler II.

  1. Richard,

You ask some good questions : This Talladega has been in the Speedway and Mark Moses registry and was in fact at one of the 1st. Talladega reunions at Talladega.

As to if the car should bring more money because it is being sold by a Rick Hendricks dealership…..I think not. If the add stated from Mr. Hendricks personal collection than may-be a few dollars more could be added but not as being sold

This is what I see from the pictures: AS you stated the hood is gloss black…but so is the cowl panel and rear tail panel. So to make it correct these areas need to be repainted.
Under the hood decals, the decal placement is all wrong as is the decal on air cleaner.

Also grill is not semi-flat black…as to the mileage :it is clear those numbers have rolled over or been reset and the add states ..”.Mileage exempt”.

This always gets me “Frame Off Restoration” on this car what frame ? Torino’s did not get frames till 1972.

As to numbers matching : we need more info does the vin on the back of the block match the car ? or the Vin on the trans match block and car? It is stated they used so many 428 C.J.’s during the production run of Talladega’s they ran short so the Casting could be right on block but vin should match up.

The tires are wide ovals but short on the white wall..

AS to the next to the last Talladega built….we seem to forget
PRODUCTION TALLADEGA ….Knudsen T was in fact last one built !

Note on Marty report “Hood Pins” we have proved hood pins did not come on T’s from factory and it is clear this T does not have them ! So in short there are a few things incorrect about this T but also it is an out standing car I feel is in the right ball park on price.

Now here is a question ? It is stated the last few Talladega’s built during the production run did not have T plates on top of doors but a decal….. so why does this T have plates….were they added when car was restored? or they factory ?

    1. Just a minor point but the bottom of the rockers at the pinchweld are body color if I see that right.Arent they supposed to be flat black?

      1. Pinchweld should be flat black in fact it was a rust proofing to cover the lower welds….also I did not list the radio….Factory invoice shows the unit was shipped with a AM radio.
