Aero Car Reunion 2020 Announced

Here are our 2017 Talladega Spoiler Family Reunion attendees. A very happy and knowledgeable group.

If you have not yet attended one of our Talladega Spoiler Family Reunions, mark your calendar now for Wednesday, September 23 through Saturday, September 26, 2020. For clarity, our first event will start Wednesday morning and the last one will be Saturday night. That means you should plan to check into your hotel on Tuesday the 25th and check out on Sunday the 27th. This will be a reunion similar to our previous events, but bigger and grander! It will officially be the Winged Warrior’s Nationals! Katrina and I will be hosting their event here in Murfreesboro, TN. However, this event will also include the Daytona Superbird Club and our own Talladega Spoiler Registry Club!

Although no details are yet available, you can plan on driving your car to some extraordinary places, visit some of Nashville’s best spots, country music and even some time to show your car off and visit with other attendees! We will be developing details over the next few months and keeping you posted. As always at our events, it will be family-friendly and casual.

The Holiday Inn Silohill. You can see the truck and trailer parking area behind the hotel.

The host hotel is the Holiday Inn Silohill in Murfreesboro, TN. You can book your rooms now! We have a block of 60 rooms at a rate of $115 plus tax per night. There is a restaurant on-site with breakfast available but not included in the room rate. Ask for the Winged Warriors rate. The hotel is offering us truck and trailer parking immediately behind the hotel on a large grassy area. More details on this will follow. The hotel is located near the exit from I-24 Medical Center Parkway. There are many restaurants in the area as well as a major outdoor shopping mall, The Avenues.  There are 5,000 hotel rooms in Murfreesboro. You may be able to find rooms at a lower rate and you certainly will find them at a higher rate but beware of bad locations and avoid “seedy” hotels. You may also have difficulty with parking of trucks and trailers at most hotels. We have many tourists due to our proximity to Nashville and we also have a large number of conventions and sports competitions going on within Murfreesboro during the year that creates a large demand for rooms. Please book your room early!

Here is how you can book your room now. It can be canceled without cost prior to the event. Please read the hotel’s requirements for the proper procedures.

Hotel for Winged Warriors

The directions are: you click the link above, verify the dates you would like to stay, make sure WWR is under Group Code, then scroll down and choose your room type. You may still call the hotel to reserve your room if you like. The hotel’s number is (615) 751-5300, press 0 for the front desk and give the block name, Winged Warriors or the block code WWR. If you have questions or problems please contact me at rfleener@comcast.net.

To plan the best possible event we need a good estimate of how many people and cars will be attending. If you THINK you will attend PLEASE drop me an email at rfleener@comcast.net as soon as possible. This is not your Registration and will not be binding but will help us plan appropriate activities. Once we have an estimate of the number attending we will post specific activities and Registration procedures. For now, let us know if you plan to attend and reserve your room before the host hotel is booked.

Mark your calendar now for our 2020 event beginning Wednesday, September 23, 2020, through Saturday, September 26th. If you have attended one of our events in the past you know you will have fun. We prefer our events to be casual, family-friendly and provide lots of opportunities for you to enjoy meeting new friends. If you missed the Tim Wellborn 50th Reunion at Talladega this is your chance to make up for it in a much more relaxed smaller group.

Here is one of our Reunions held at the Keenland Concours in Lexington, KY.

Richard

Some of my first and strongest memories from my childhood relate to cars. I still remember when things happened based on what car I was driving at the time. I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California and now live in Tennessee. I was a Corvette fanatic for years but then re-discovered vintage American Muscle. My wife, Katrina, and I decided we wanted to focus on unique and rare muscle cars. After a lot of research we fell in love with the Ford Blue Oval Aero Cars. These were only built in 1969 and and aerodynamics became an important part of winning races. The only purpose of these limited production cars was to win NASCAR races using the Boss 429 and 427 power plants complimented with a special, wind cheating, aerodynamic body. The Ford Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II are terrific and historic cars. This site is devoted to these car and their owners past and present. We provide an Online Registry for recording the long term history and ownership of every remaining Talladega, Spoiler and Spoiler II.
