Bonneville Tests
Mike Callahan
We never get tired of hearing about Mike Callahan’s adventures with his Spoiler II. At this time of year, Mike’s mind begins to focus on how fast he can go at Bonneville and how many miles he will put on his Mercury out meeting new friends in the car hobby. Here are Mike’s most recent photos and words about his preparation for Bonneville 2024.
June 2024 was a big month for the Mercury. I drove on the Hot Rod Power Tour in Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, and Indiana in the heat, traffic, and construction. Then I went to Bonneville and ran 187mph on the salt. The last two years my attempts on the salt flats were rained out. So this year I decided to run a test and tune at Bonneville early in the season in hopes of beating the rain. Of course, it rained the night before we were to race. The only thing more slippery than dry salt is wet salt. On the good side, at least now I have a good idea of what I need to do to the Cyclone before I go back to Bonneville as I can continue towards my goal of 200. I will be going to the Woodward Cruise next month and then to the Aero Reunion at Talladega in October. I am looking forward to seeing everyone there and meeting some new aero friends. Thanks. Mike
Thanks, Mike, hope to see you soon, and stay safe on your adventures towards 200 mph!
