Speedway Fords & Mercurys-1969 Ford Talladega

There will be no special Monday Morning Article for the next two weeks since we are so close to Christmas and since I prepared this early in December.

This issue is a very special Christmas present for you. It starts with an update on the King Cobra program and ends with a description of the Talladega from a new owner back in 1982. Some of the stories and facts we hear so often are told with a little different twist through these old pages. I hope you enjoy these articles.

This series will continue right after January 1 if all goes as planned. (I do have a short Aero Tip for you on Dec. 31 just so you will have something to talk about at the New Years Eve Party!)

Thank you to Team Member Steve Marek for making these publications available.

Merrry Christmas and Happy New Year

Some of my first and strongest memories from my childhood relate to cars. I still remember when things happened based on what car I was driving at the time. I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California and now live in Tennessee. I was a Corvette fanatic for years but then re-discovered vintage American Muscle. My wife, Katrina, and I decided we wanted to focus on unique and rare muscle cars. After a lot of research we fell in love with the Ford Blue Oval Aero Cars. These were only built in 1969 and and aerodynamics became an important part of winning races. The only purpose of these limited production cars was to win NASCAR races using the Boss 429 and 427 power plants complimented with a special, wind cheating, aerodynamic body. The Ford Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II are terrific and historic cars. This site is devoted to these car and their owners past and present. We provide an Online Registry for recording the long term history and ownership of every remaining Talladega, Spoiler and Spoiler II.

    1. The Newsletter was published by Chick Schiesser, Jr. There were a number of Club Directors some of whom are active on this page and or names you would recognise. Don Amadio did all the artwork for the Newsletter. Don still owns the same Spoiler II today! Since there is no other credit given in the article I assume it was written by Chick. However, next weeks article was done by George Mc David. You will want to read it. George Troell, Mike’s father, aslo made several contributions. I would like to hear from some of the current Team Members who where part of the Speedway group. How good was it and why did it die?
