1969 Cale Yarborough 390 4-Speed SOLD

I recently came across an extremely rare 1969 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler Cale Yarborough Spoiler with a 390 4-speed. The car also has PS and PB. The car is mostly apart with some items missing. The engine and trans appear to be numbers matching but the engine may need to be rebuilt. I have not tried to start it but was told it had not been rebuilt. I have a Marti Report on the car.

The floors are excellent with the exception of where the floor pan meets the toe board on the passenger side. It appears that maybe the heater box leaked at one time. It is not a bad fix. The driver side cowl vent is rusted away but Tom Wilson makes a patch for these. A restoration was started on the car and it was painted and then set aside for a long time. The new paint has some damage here and there. Rust has developed in the lower driver door but again Tom is making a patch panel for this as well. There is also a little rust in the trunk lid and lower rear quarters behind the wheel wells which is not visible from the outside. The interior is a bench seat car. The lower dash is from a Torino and will need the correct Cyclone part. I have added some of my parts to help complete what is missing but I am sure there will still be items required.

I purchased this car because it is so rare and wanted to help it find the right home. I predict that big block 4-speed Spoilers will eventually be worth the same as a Talladega if they have the right options. I have too many projects and just want to find a good home for this one.

I will listen to trades and offers. This has the Marti Report which states that only 78 390 Cale Yarborough cars were built and only 8 came with the wide ratio 4 speed! In total only 617 Cale Yarborough Spoilers were ever built. This is a very rare car with tremendous up side. A well restored CY Spoiler like this should fetch $55,000 or more. I have a clean clear TN title. If you want to know more about this car please contact me at rfleener@comcast.net. Price; SOLD.

Some of my first and strongest memories from my childhood relate to cars. I still remember when things happened based on what car I was driving at the time. I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California and now live in Tennessee. I was a Corvette fanatic for years but then re-discovered vintage American Muscle. My wife, Katrina, and I decided we wanted to focus on unique and rare muscle cars. After a lot of research we fell in love with the Ford Blue Oval Aero Cars. These were only built in 1969 and and aerodynamics became an important part of winning races. The only purpose of these limited production cars was to win NASCAR races using the Boss 429 and 427 power plants complimented with a special, wind cheating, aerodynamic body. The Ford Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II are terrific and historic cars. This site is devoted to these car and their owners past and present. We provide an Online Registry for recording the long term history and ownership of every remaining Talladega, Spoiler and Spoiler II.
