2011 Talladega Family Reunion Participants

Those who attend the Talladega Family Reunions usually say the cars are great but the people are what they enjoy the most. If you can imagine two full days and still not having enough time to meet everyone and talk about our cars you have not been to a Reunion! Unfortunately, I missed a few of the attendees and did not get pictures of them with their cars. Although I believe I spoke to everyone I just plane missed not getting everyone’s photo. This is my fault and I sincerely apologize for my mistake. Believe me, just because your photo may not be here is no reflection on how pleased we all are that you were able to attend. If you do not see your photos below and have one you can send me I would very much like to add it to the collection.

I have also included some group photos of the cars and attendees. Some of the participants had to leave early for a magazine photo shoot and we will be seeing them in the magazine(s) sometime this year. For the rest of us the group photo is a lasting memory of all the great people who attended. If you are one of the participants and want a digital photo of you with your car or one of the group photos please email me and I will send a copy to you by email.

Richard

Some of my first and strongest memories from my childhood relate to cars. I still remember when things happened based on what car I was driving at the time. I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California and now live in Tennessee. I was a Corvette fanatic for years but then re-discovered vintage American Muscle. My wife, Katrina, and I decided we wanted to focus on unique and rare muscle cars. After a lot of research we fell in love with the Ford Blue Oval Aero Cars. These were only built in 1969 and and aerodynamics became an important part of winning races. The only purpose of these limited production cars was to win NASCAR races using the Boss 429 and 427 power plants complimented with a special, wind cheating, aerodynamic body. The Ford Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II are terrific and historic cars. This site is devoted to these car and their owners past and present. We provide an Online Registry for recording the long term history and ownership of every remaining Talladega, Spoiler and Spoiler II.

  1. I would like to thank Richard, Katrina, Jason, Clarence, and of course, Tim for putting this on. But, most importantly, I would like to thank all of the owners and their families for attending. It was a great event, and I am already looking forward to attending next year.

Every car present was special. Even more important (and special) are the owners and their families for sharing their stories with one another. It was also great getting to meet owners who were in the middle of restorations, even though they were unable to bring some of their cars. It was great to see the unrestored cars, as they had stories to tell those of us with restored ones, as well as to those in the middle of their restorations. There is so little documented about these cars, that the unrestored ones speak volumes about how these cars were built, and how they looked when they left the factory. Even though most (all?) of our cars are no longer the way they left the factory, each car with any part of it left original, tells some part of the original story.

Thanks again for a very special weekend.

    Carl.
