Moonshine Festival in Dawsonville with Awesome Bill!

We have had Dawsonville Moonsine Festival on our calendar for several years but something always came up to prevent us from attending. This year we were all set to take our Cale Yarborough Spoiler and go but again our plans had to change. We did make it but we were unable to take the car. The 2014 Dawsonville GA Mountain Moonshine Festival is a must if you like old cars, moonshine, race cars, moonshine, crafts, and moonshine! It is also a fund raiser for a great cause, Kare for Kids.

The Festival runs for several days but Saturday is the big day. We got a late start and traffic was terrible. It took us three time as long to get there on Saturday as it did on Sunday morning. The crowd on Saturday was huge but Sunday was very nice. Our first priority was to see some old race cars and old moonshine runners. We were not disappointed with plenty of both on hand. The town square was surrounded by more 40 Fords than you have ever likely seen in one place at one time. It isn’t just 40 Fords they like down south, all Fords seem to be the favored brand!

If your wife is into crafts there were blocks and blocks of cool craft vendors for her to look through while you check out all the cars or the swap meet. If you kept a sharp eye open there were also some old drivers around with plenty of old dirt track and drag strip cars everywhere. Rex White was there as were Bill Elliott and son Chase Elliott. All were giving out autographs.

One of our favorite things was meeting Awesome Bill (Elliott) from Dawsonville. We even got a jug of his moonshine with his autograph and another autograph on our old open face race helmet that has many other notable Nascar drivers ‘ signatures.

Next year we will return with our Cale Yarborough Spoiler for sure and spend the entire three days of the event having a lot of good old down south fun! Ya’ll come, ya hear. If you would like to attend we will make this an unofficial Reunion. Katrina and I are thinking this would be a terrific location for the 2016 Talladega Family Reunion. It is a great family event, relaxed, tons of things to do and see, the food is delicious and with some very beautiful back roads for those special activities. What do you think? If it sounds good to you I will start working on it now!
