Last week the talk was all about the Barrett Jackson Auction in Scottsdale and the sale of a slightly modified Talladega for $110,000. This week there is another auction and another Talladega. The auction is the Mecum Kissimme blowout that started last week and is still going on through this weekend. The Big Dogs of the sale are this weekend.

One of our Registry cars is up for auction on Saturday and is scheduled for 12:50 PM Eastern Standard time. This is a restored maroon car that was just completed. We have communicated with the owner, David Payne, and had him forward some photos we can share with you.

He has also provided a copy of the Build Sheet and Marti Report. From the photos he provided it appears that the car was rust and damage free when they started the restoration. One interesting bit of info from the Marti report shows that the car was built on February 20, 1969 but not sold until May 5, 1970. This is another example that confirms that these rare and highly desirable cars today were not the best sellers back in the day! This car sold new out of Winter Garden Florida.

I must add that I have not seen this car in person but from the photos and documentation provided I would suggest that this Talladega should be far more attractive to anyone looking for an investor quality Talladega or even the average collector concerned with authenticity than the one that sold at Barrett Jackson for $110,000.

Here are some photos of the car prior to its restoration. I know any wreck can be restored with enough work but it is much easier to get a great result with a sound body to begin with.

Here we have a well documented 1969 Ford Talladega; it has been fully restored from a very solid original car that appears to be damage and rust free, it will be selling as a “star” at auction on live TV at the biggest collector car auction in the country; it is far more authentic and original than the previous Talladdga that sold at the BJ Auction. What will this car do at auction?

I have no way to predict what the car should bring. However, I can give you my opinion.

Based on the trend we have seen in real estate sales and collector car sales I believe we are at the beginning of a major recovery in values in both markets. In addition, I believe that Fords in general are in for bigger gain than most other brands. Fords, in my opinion, have been undervalued for years and the 1969 Ford Aero Cars have been completely overlooked. There is no reason these cars should not be priced equal to or greater than the 1969 Dodge Charger 500 which has recently benefited from its own surge in value. For the first time I believe we will very soon see quality Ford Aero cars and 428 CJ Spoilers commonly changing hands in the $75,000 to $125,000 range.
