Bristol Motor Speedway Show
I know winter hasn’t even gotten a good start in most parts of the Country yet but Katrina and I are already putting some great shows and events onto our 2012 calendar. Here is one you will not want to miss and if you delay you might not be able to attend. Tim Lopata, of the Forge Muscle Car Show fame, has arranged a once in a lifetime opportunity for us at the Bristol TN NASCAR event next March 16th! First of all you must know that not everyone can attend. As I understand it, we are limited to 25 Ford aero cars including the Talladega and Spoiler/Spoiler II. We already have 10 cars registered. There will also be cars from the Winged MOPARS in attendance. Katrina and I have attended races at this track in the past and the facilities will absolutely take your breath away the first time you walk out of the stairs in the stands and stare down at that wonderful half mile track. I have heard rumors we might get a lap on that track but that has not yet been confirmed and no promises!
If you have never been to an event held in conjunction with a NASCAR race at one of the legendary tracks you don’t know what you are missing. Bristol is one place you absolutely have to have on your “Bucket List”. If you own an Aero Ford or have the slightest interest in NASCAR give this event some serious consideration. As far as I have heard to date there is no cost to display your car at the track.
Here is what Tim has planned!
This is a one day event with the display set-up at the Bristol Speedway on Friday March 16. 2012 from 9AM until 1PM. The show event runs from 4PM – 9PM. This display will be in the Food City hospitality section. Food City provides parking for trucks/trailers in the lot adjacent to the event. Plus Food City provides food for the day. All the vendors for the NASCAR race are set-up and the speedway will be having qualifying all day. If you want to watch qualifying there is a minimal $5 charge. Remember, Bristol’s infield is very small and there is no room for all the haulers like at most tracks so only the team haulers for that day are allowed inside the infield and all others are stationed outside the track. (If this works out like the 2011 event at Indy we will likely see drivers, team members and owners visiting our display, maybe even some TV cameras!)
Our Show Day is known as Fanfest. All the food and drink sponsors will be providing free samples for the fans plus a lot of the drivers and their cars will be attending this event. Most likely there will be lots of Autograph signings and you will be able to get pictures with their cars. there will be bands playing throughout the day and they usually bring in a headliner. Although it will be a long day there are a lot of things to do.
On Saturday Tim Lopata and Jason Thompson are planning a cruise-in in Sevierville at a place called the Diner. It’s like one of the old Diners you see from the northeast. They will be providing music etc. throughout the day. They are also planning a visit to Floyd Garrett’s museum later in the day. This area is one of the top family tourist spots in the US! If you bring the family Pigeon Forge, Dollywood, and Gatlinburg are just 7 miles from the cruise.
Tim and Jason are currently lining up hotels to accommodate everyone in the Sevierville area. There are very few hotels in Bristol and they are usually booked and overpriced. Even if you want to stay for the races on Saturday and Sunday you will likely not be staying in Bristol. They should have hotel information in a couple of weeks and I will be posting it here.
If you forgo the cruise and want to attend the NASCAR races you are on your own. We cannot provide or have access to tickets, parking or hotels etc.
However, remember the Friday event runs until 9PM and we must exit the facility and return to Sevierville (about 70 miles) from Bristol or whatever other option you may have made for the night or return home.
