2012 Talladega Family Reunion; Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals

Linda Vaughn and First Production Talladega

I just returned from what had to be one of the best Car Shows I have ever attended. Unfortunately, Katrina could not make this show since she is recuperating from hip surgery but wants everyone to know she won’t miss another one.

To start with the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals held in Chicago every year is one terrific show. The quantity and quality of the cars on display is different every year and beyond exceptional. There are judged and non-judged cars on display. To give you an example of what was there is a conversation I overheard from a couple of participants. It went something like this. I got docked one point by the Judges because I had the wrong air filter; mine had triangle mesh and I was supposed to have square mesh!

There were over 500 of the best muscle cars/Corvettes in the Country. However, the stars of the show (in my opinion and many others) were the Aero Cars. Although we Blue Oval guys were having our 2012 Talladega Family Reunion within the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals we were happy to share the spot light with our NASCAR nemesis from MOPAR. It was all in good fun and we had a great time with everyone there. There were many familiar faces and like always several new friends to meet. Although we had a great turn out of approximately 14 Ford products there were no Spoilers or Dan Gurney cars present and we were out numbered by MOPARS 2 to 1. I guess that just goes to show you whose cars are the rarest!

This Reunion would not have been possible without all the very hard work of Jason Thompson. He really out did himself this year and deserves a thank you from everyone who was there.

Here are just a few of the great cars in our display area. If you would like to see more of the entire show just hop over to our sister site at www.LegendaryCollectorCars.com.

We will also be posting a video of the cars in a few days.

Wing envy, “My Wing is bigger than yours!”

Jason’t Car went through a very thorough inspection process and came out the other end with a Legend Certification! Congratulations to Jason and Clarence for a job well done!

Some of my first and strongest memories from my childhood relate to cars. I still remember when things happened based on what car I was driving at the time. I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California and now live in Tennessee. I was a Corvette fanatic for years but then re-discovered vintage American Muscle. My wife, Katrina, and I decided we wanted to focus on unique and rare muscle cars. After a lot of research we fell in love with the Ford Blue Oval Aero Cars. These were only built in 1969 and and aerodynamics became an important part of winning races. The only purpose of these limited production cars was to win NASCAR races using the Boss 429 and 427 power plants complimented with a special, wind cheating, aerodynamic body. The Ford Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II are terrific and historic cars. This site is devoted to these car and their owners past and present. We provide an Online Registry for recording the long term history and ownership of every remaining Talladega, Spoiler and Spoiler II.
