Having a little fun at the Sonic at the last Aero Car Reunion in 2009.

It is time to take care of a little house keeping. I gotten so far behind that summer is going to pass me by like a Talladega passing a Superbird!

The car season is well underway with lots of events every weekend, some of which are really big. With the 50th anniversary of the Mustang there seem to be Ford events everywhere you turn. Our two big events for this year are the Keeneland Concours d’Elegance July 19th in Lexington KY and the Talladega Reunion at the Talladega Superspeedway on October 19th with additional activities in the area prior to the race. You can read the details on these events in other recent articles on this site.

With all of these activities it will be a great time to get some photos to submit for our 2015 TalladegaSpoilerRegistry.com Calendar. We want everyone to participate this year. 2014 is the 45th Anniversary of the Aero Cars in NASCAR and we want the 2015 Calendar to feature some really cool pictures from that period. We are starting now so everyone has a chance to get that perfect photo to be featured on the 2015 Calendar. We will also be featuring our personal favorite photos that come in during the year on this web site.

Here are the rules for the 2015 Calendar:

First, we would like to see photos submitted to have been taken at a race track or some other “time capsule” appropriate location. That means an old gas station from the time period or a Dairy Queen/A&W or other obviously vintage location. These don’t need to be actual old photos but should be photos taken at restored or preserved locations from the past. We will accept other appropriate photos but preference will be given to photos that feature vintage like locations.

I know it is a Daytona but a Spoiler II parked in front of this old station would sure look good.

Second, if you can’t find such a location in your area we will accept photos with you, your significant other, children or whoever dressed in period appropriate attire. Think 1969/1970s hippy, greaser or “The Going Thing” ad girls and guys; have some fun with this. We usually do not want people in the photos but this year will be an exception.

Third, the Barn Finds and junk yard cars were a really big hit this year so those photos are also welcome.

Barn Find or Project Cars are always interesting.

Fourth, you can begin submitting photos right now and we will be posting some of our favorites during the year.

Have fun with this, use your imagination and keep your camera close as you go through the driving and show season this year. We will try not to stop accepting photos until after the Talladega Reunion in October.

We are also trying to build a new section for this site which will feature Restoration information similar to the bits and pieces that have been covered in some of the previous Posts and in our Forum. This section will contain information and photos submitted by you and categorized by the make and model of car as well as the component family. An example would be “interior” or “front suspension”. The general format will try to follow the FCA Judging pages previously Posted on this site. Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated.

We have had a lot of new Team Members register in the last few months and I want to thank them for joining our ranks. Some have already been active and visible on the Forum. I hope we can all meet up at one of this year’s events.

I also want to encourage each and everyone of you to participate even more in our Registry. It is becoming more and more difficult for me to keep the site fresh with new articles. I would love to see more of you submit photos, stories, and technical information you would like to share. If you would like to discuss this please drop me an email at rfleener@comcast.net.

Finally, I want to remind you to check out our Online Store for some cool and hard to find items you might like to “show your colors” with this season.

Some of my first and strongest memories from my childhood relate to cars. I still remember when things happened based on what car I was driving at the time. I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California and now live in Tennessee. I was a Corvette fanatic for years but then re-discovered vintage American Muscle. My wife, Katrina, and I decided we wanted to focus on unique and rare muscle cars. After a lot of research we fell in love with the Ford Blue Oval Aero Cars. These were only built in 1969 and and aerodynamics became an important part of winning races. The only purpose of these limited production cars was to win NASCAR races using the Boss 429 and 427 power plants complimented with a special, wind cheating, aerodynamic body. The Ford Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II are terrific and historic cars. This site is devoted to these car and their owners past and present. We provide an Online Registry for recording the long term history and ownership of every remaining Talladega, Spoiler and Spoiler II.
