2014 Talladega 45th Reunion CANCELED!

40th Reunion Party at the Wellborn Museum in 2009.

Hi everyone,

It is with great disappointment and sorrow that I have to tell you that the 45th Reunion at Talladega this October has been canceled. Just today I received word from Doug Schellinger (Daytona and Superbird Club) that Tim Wellborn is having some health concerns and is unable to continue with putting the event together. He is ok but has some issues that must be dealt with and the stress of putting the event on is something he does not need to be dealing with. Katrina and I have been looking forward to this event since we headed home from the 40th  Reunion. As disappointed as we all are I think you will all agree with us that Tim’s health is more important than any Reunion. As I understand it there may be some hope of doing the event at the Spring Talladega Race but no promises at this time.

If you have made your hotel reservations and don’t have tickets to the race please do not forget to cancel them.

We are continuing to think about what activity we should be planning for our “Talladega Family Reunion” for 2015. This is our Ford/Mercury only event and has nothing to do with the DSAC event at the Talladega Speedway. Please take a few minutes and go to our Forum and tell us what you would like to do next year. Some of my first and strongest memories from my childhood relate to cars. I still remember when things happened based on what car I was driving at the time. I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California and now live in Tennessee. I was a Corvette fanatic for years but then re-discovered vintage American Muscle. My wife, Katrina, and I decided we wanted to focus on unique and rare muscle cars. After a lot of research we fell in love with the Ford Blue Oval Aero Cars. These were only built in 1969 and and aerodynamics became an important part of winning races. The only purpose of these limited production cars was to win NASCAR races using the Boss 429 and 427 power plants complimented with a special, wind cheating, aerodynamic body. The Ford Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II are terrific and historic cars. This site is devoted to these car and their owners past and present. We provide an Online Registry for recording the long term history and ownership of every remaining Talladega, Spoiler and Spoiler II.
