What Are You Working On? Rick Stanton & Kjell Rygge

Off and on we have been bringing you updated information on the Kjell Rygge Talladega build. Kjell is located in Norway but his engine is under construction in California. Most of us know of Rick Stanton’s Benny Parsons Tribute Car. It is a Boss 429 powered streetable NASCAR version built from a real Talladega.  Kjell bought a solid but incomplete Talladega from me a couple of years ago with some pretty wild long term goals of tearing up the highways in Norway with a one of a kind Talladega.

Kjell has not yet shared any plans for the car other than the engine. Rick Stanton is, to say the least, a wiz at powerful engines. Here is what Rick has going into Kjell’s engine.

Boss 429 list # 4575 Dominator

The carb is an original NASCAR Boss 429  List #4575  with the Choke plate is still all there, normally they are machined off. Rick says he is going to Dyno this engine with this Dominator first, then try another 1050 Dominator that has the choke horn machined off and run it. Then he will try a 1150 cfm Dominator and if it is still making more power he will try a 1250 cfm Dominator like what his Talladega runs which makes 824 flywheel HP, 713 RWHP.

This is a PSI HI Helix 8-71 Blower with 2- 1050 cfm Dominators on it. It should make 1200 to 1300 hp.

Some of my first and strongest memories from my childhood relate to cars. I still remember when things happened based on what car I was driving at the time. I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California and now live in Tennessee. I was a Corvette fanatic for years but then re-discovered vintage American Muscle. My wife, Katrina, and I decided we wanted to focus on unique and rare muscle cars. After a lot of research we fell in love with the Ford Blue Oval Aero Cars. These were only built in 1969 and and aerodynamics became an important part of winning races. The only purpose of these limited production cars was to win NASCAR races using the Boss 429 and 427 power plants complimented with a special, wind cheating, aerodynamic body. The Ford Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II are terrific and historic cars. This site is devoted to these car and their owners past and present. We provide an Online Registry for recording the long term history and ownership of every remaining Talladega, Spoiler and Spoiler II.
