From California to Norway this special package is almost home!

Team Member and friend Kjell Rygge who lives in Norway just gave us an update on the NASCAR build of a Talladega we sold him a couple of years back. If you are familiar with Rick Stanton’s Benny Parson tribute car that was featured on the cover of Hot Rod a few years back you can begin to visualize what Kjell is building. He started with a very sound Talladega that was missing all of its drive train and more. With that as a foundation he contacted Rick and their collaboration produced the start of an extremely hot Talladega. In his own words and photos, here is what Kjell has to say about his “What are you working on?”

How many of us dream of a Talladega with this set up?

Thursday I picked up the crate with my Boss 560 engine and parts after it had cleared the Customs.  Here are a couple of pictures, one with the crate on the truck on our way to the garage and one while unpacking it from the crate.  As you see Rick had hooked up the black SS hoses to the Oil Cooler and Dry Sump Tank in the crate… good for me when I’m putting it into the car later.  I’ve also got some other parts from Rick, complete Global West Front End Coil-Over Kit modified with Nascar Spindles, Rotors, Hats and Calipers, see attached picture.  Rick removed the Ball Joint mounts on the A-arm and bigger mounts for Nascar Ball Joints was welded in.  I’ve also got two Holley 1050 Carburetors, one with Choke Horns and one without Choke Horns.  The one without Choke Horns was the one that gave most HP on the Dyno, see links below from the Dyno test.

Yesterday I bought a used Nascar Radiator on eBay with the right size we need, see pic. below.  Rick is going to get I modified to be 3 pass and have a shroud built to mount two cooling fans J

Rick is also modifying a Nascar Disc Brake Rear End with a 3’rd Member, 3.50 gears and Detroit Locker for me to fit the Talladega.  I have earlier also received a set of Nascar Wheel and Tires (rain tires) from Rick, see attached pic.  And there are more parts I will need as well… I’m still looking for an original Cowl Induction Air Cleaner, if I can’t find one Rick will modify a Carbon Fiber Cowl Air Cleaner for me.  I hope to get started with the body work on the Talladega this summer/autumn and have it finished in 2017.  Can’t thank Rick enough… he’s done a fantastic job with the engine and helping me getting the right parts I need.. J

If you can help Kjell with the air cleaner he is looking for please contact me at rfleener@comcast.net and I will put him in touch with you.

Some of my first and strongest memories from my childhood relate to cars. I still remember when things happened based on what car I was driving at the time. I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California and now live in Tennessee. I was a Corvette fanatic for years but then re-discovered vintage American Muscle. My wife, Katrina, and I decided we wanted to focus on unique and rare muscle cars. After a lot of research we fell in love with the Ford Blue Oval Aero Cars. These were only built in 1969 and and aerodynamics became an important part of winning races. The only purpose of these limited production cars was to win NASCAR races using the Boss 429 and 427 power plants complimented with a special, wind cheating, aerodynamic body. The Ford Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II are terrific and historic cars. This site is devoted to these car and their owners past and present. We provide an Online Registry for recording the long term history and ownership of every remaining Talladega, Spoiler and Spoiler II.
