Talladega Family Reunion Reservations Update

This will be your hotel. It is just off of Interstate 24 approximately 45 minutes south of Nashville.

We need you to make your reservations and registration for this year’s Talladega Spoiler Family Reunion on August 4th-7th as soon as possible.

As always, you don’t have to bring your car and we don’t care about the condition of your car. Our group loves all the 1969 Ford/Mercury Aero Cars in any condition. If you have never attended before it is a great opportunity to see cars like yours and talk to owners who are also restoring or have restore a car like yours. Come, hang our, talk cars and meet some new friends. One or our regulars will be happy to let you ride along with them is your car is not ready! Families, children and grand-kids are highly recommended, this is a family friendly event.

Our tentative schedule begins on Friday morning. We will all gather at our home at 8:30 in the morning for a drivers’ meeting. Our home is located just outside Murfreesboro, TN approximately 20 minutes from the host hotel. I will send registered attendees maps prior to the weekend. Soon after, we will depart in our Aero Cars (or your tow vehicle if you prefer) for a scenic 26 mile, 45 minute drive down some Tennessee back roads. Our destination will be the Short Mountain Distillery, a real moonshine distillery. It is now legal but that was not always the case. There will be demonstrations and samples available. You will also be able to purchase you own bottle(s) to take home!

Once the tour is over we will drive a short distance to have lunch and possibly do a little antique shopping.

Next up is drive back to Murfreesboro and a visit to the Stones River Civil War Battlefield. Here you can drive through the old battlefield, visit the free National Park Service Civil War Museum and gift shop. Take as long as you like to tour the Museum or visit the Civil War Cemetery across the street, I highly recommend this.

When you are ready, head back to the Fleener home for a relaxed evening of talking cars, playing with miniature donkeys and looking at our small collection of Aero Cars and other motor-head “stuff”. We will also be providing a free evening meal and soft drinks under the trees in our backyard. You will feast on a buffet of famous TN pulled pork BQ and all the fixens from one of our locals’ favorite restaurants.

Wives and kids will love playing with our little donkeys. We should have several new born babies at the time of the Reunion.

Saturday’s activities have not yet been finalized but I am sure you will enjoy the day. We have several exciting possibilities we are still working on but it is to early to “close the deal” on any of them.

On Sunday you are free to head home or hang out for a few days and tour Nashville. If you need a place to store your Aero Car and trailer before or after the Reunion we will make room, at no cost, to as many as we can in are farm yard. The entire property is fenced with security gates at the road so your pride and joy will be safe.

We also have some other "stuff" you might be interested in seeing.

Hotel lobby is enclosed and surrounded by the rooms. This will be a great place for us to gather and talk cars.

Registration and Host Hotel Info!

As for the host hotel, I highly recommend the Embassy Suites at 1200 Conference Center Boulevard, Murfreesboro, TN 37129. A special rate is available for a limited time. It is only $139 per night plus taxes, this is regularly a $199 room.

Some of my first and strongest memories from my childhood relate to cars. I still remember when things happened based on what car I was driving at the time. I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California and now live in Tennessee. I was a Corvette fanatic for years but then re-discovered vintage American Muscle. My wife, Katrina, and I decided we wanted to focus on unique and rare muscle cars. After a lot of research we fell in love with the Ford Blue Oval Aero Cars. These were only built in 1969 and and aerodynamics became an important part of winning races. The only purpose of these limited production cars was to win NASCAR races using the Boss 429 and 427 power plants complimented with a special, wind cheating, aerodynamic body. The Ford Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II are terrific and historic cars. This site is devoted to these car and their owners past and present. We provide an Online Registry for recording the long term history and ownership of every remaining Talladega, Spoiler and Spoiler II.
