A Little Good News

Friends in Australia

Today it seems that social media is full of hate and disrespect. The haters are disgruntled attack dogs that must have miserable lives. That is why it was such a special moment when I opened an email from one of our Team Members in Australia. I should also mention that this web site was created for the owners of the Ford and Mercury Aero cars as well as those car enthusiasts who were totally unaware of them. We strive to provide information that tells the story of the cars. It has been approximately 10 years that we have been struggling to make more gearheads knowledgeable about these rare cars.

The email from Dave Hunter is provided below. His kind words are a prime example of what we strive to do. However, I am not alone in this challenge. It is everyone of you who takes the time to tell the story of these cars at a car show or on social media that have helped spread the word about Ford’s almost forgotten aero car history. When seeing our Talladega it used to be that every car guy would say something like: “That is Ford’s response to the MOPAR winged cars that dominated NASCAR.” I would quickly correct them by saying that the Talladega was produced before the Dodge Daytona and Plymouth Superbird which were built to compete against the Talladega. And, it was the Talladega that won the 1969 NASCAR Championship with David Pearson. Recently, we were showing our Talladega in Florida and about half the people who stopped by to talk knew the Talladega was first and nearly everyone knew what a Talladega is. Not one called it a Charger! We are making progress.

Back to Dave’s email. He is a perfect example of a new Talladega enthusiast. He did his home work, knew what he wanted and went looking for it, even in Australia! Most of all, he is also like most of the Ford Aero Car owners I know, friendly, kind and helpful! His words help ease the pain of keeping this site alive.

Some of my first and strongest memories from my childhood relate to cars. I still remember when things happened based on what car I was driving at the time. I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California and now live in Tennessee. I was a Corvette fanatic for years but then re-discovered vintage American Muscle. My wife, Katrina, and I decided we wanted to focus on unique and rare muscle cars. After a lot of research we fell in love with the Ford Blue Oval Aero Cars. These were only built in 1969 and and aerodynamics became an important part of winning races. The only purpose of these limited production cars was to win NASCAR races using the Boss 429 and 427 power plants complimented with a special, wind cheating, aerodynamic body. The Ford Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II are terrific and historic cars. This site is devoted to these car and their owners past and present. We provide an Online Registry for recording the long term history and ownership of every remaining Talladega, Spoiler and Spoiler II.
