Pre-Spoiler Color Code 428 CJ Ram Air + Air Conditioning

Car prior to restoration;as found. You can see a couple of chips in paint near rear wheel well and it had a small ding/scrape on the left front fender..

It is seldom we receive a registration for a Pre-Spoiler/Color Code car. (If you want to know more about these cars please Click Here) It is even more rare to have someone register a 428 CJ Ram Air car with air conditioning! We recently received a Registration for both in one car! Oh, and it also has bucket seats and console.

Dan Daugherty of North Carolina recently sent us a Registration for his beautiful car. He states that he picked the car up at the Mecum Auction in Houston in December 2011. He was told that it had been parked in a warehouse since 1976; pulled out in late 2010 and restored. He can’t confirm the story but it still had a 1976 Texas state inspection sticker, college parking sticker and license plate on it when he purchased it.

This is the car after restoration.

Dan also forwarded the following photos to share with us.

Original Build Sheet; note that bottom of build sheet calls for white and red paint plus red tape stripes although the tape stripes are not listed on the window sticker. Possibly stripes became part of the special paint code in preparation for the Cale cars? Anyway I added the stripes and wheels after I got the car. Dash, door panels and seats are still original.

Dan also added that he has a friend who also has one of these Pre-Spoiler/Paint Code cars built the first week in December and it is almost identical to his. That one does have hood pins and the dual racing mirrors. Unlike Dan’s late December car, his early December car lists the stripes as an option.

Richard

Some of my first and strongest memories from my childhood relate to cars. I still remember when things happened based on what car I was driving at the time. I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California and now live in Tennessee. I was a Corvette fanatic for years but then re-discovered vintage American Muscle. My wife, Katrina, and I decided we wanted to focus on unique and rare muscle cars. After a lot of research we fell in love with the Ford Blue Oval Aero Cars. These were only built in 1969 and and aerodynamics became an important part of winning races. The only purpose of these limited production cars was to win NASCAR races using the Boss 429 and 427 power plants complimented with a special, wind cheating, aerodynamic body. The Ford Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II are terrific and historic cars. This site is devoted to these car and their owners past and present. We provide an Online Registry for recording the long term history and ownership of every remaining Talladega, Spoiler and Spoiler II.
