David Pearson Cobra; Part 2

The HotRod.com article we posted earlier about the David Pearson’s 1969 Cobra that Ford and Holman Moody built for him generated some additional information. Alan Miller arguably has every car magazine article ever published. What is even more amazing is that he can remember what is in all of them. Heck, I get this months Hot Rod or Muscle Machine magazine and read through them. I put them down and pick up the same copy next month and I think it is a new magazine I never saw before! Getting old sucks.

Anyway, Alan sent in some images from what appears to be a 1988 or 1989 Super Ford magazine with an article on the same David Pearson Cobra. The pictures in the article are not good and the story is a little different than Hot Rod’s but it is still plenty cool.

Do you have any photos or magazine articles about old Talladga or Spoiler/Spoiler II cars, race cars or customs? How about magazine road tests? If so send me a JPG file of the item and I will publish it here on this site with credit given to you for your submission. I personally love seeing how these cars looked back in the day after the new owner gave the car its own personal personality. Send to rfleener@comcast.net.

Some of my first and strongest memories from my childhood relate to cars. I still remember when things happened based on what car I was driving at the time. I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California and now live in Tennessee. I was a Corvette fanatic for years but then re-discovered vintage American Muscle. My wife, Katrina, and I decided we wanted to focus on unique and rare muscle cars. After a lot of research we fell in love with the Ford Blue Oval Aero Cars. These were only built in 1969 and and aerodynamics became an important part of winning races. The only purpose of these limited production cars was to win NASCAR races using the Boss 429 and 427 power plants complimented with a special, wind cheating, aerodynamic body. The Ford Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II are terrific and historic cars. This site is devoted to these car and their owners past and present. We provide an Online Registry for recording the long term history and ownership of every remaining Talladega, Spoiler and Spoiler II.
