Katrina and I just returned from the 2015 Talladega Aero Car Reunion and we are very tired. I am sorting through over 700 photos plus video to share the best ones with you over the next few weeks. Let me start off by saying that there were Fords and Mercs at the event contrary to what you might see on TV or Facebook. The entire event was focused on the Mopars and a tribute to Buddy Baker. That is understood and we love the Winged cars as well but the absence of any real Ford attention was extremely disappointing to Blue Oval fans. There were at least three times as many Winged Cars as non-winged (that includes the Dodge Charger 500). Since this event is put on and focuses around Tim and Pam Wellborn’s Muscle Car Museum that should be expected and everyone was invited not just Aero Cars. Even the track parade lap included some modern Mopars! It should be noted that at least they were relegated to the back of the pack.

We did have a really good time and would highly recommend it to anyone who has any interest in these cars. The event did bring more attention to our cars as a result of all the attention to the Mopars. We spoke with several people including a contingent from Canada who had never seen a Spoiler II or Talladega and were immediately drawn to them with great interest. I should mention that these are Superbird restorers!

Just to prove that are cars and friends were there here are some photos. If I missed anyone I apologize; I didn’t even realize that I never got one of Katrina and I with our car at the event. If anyone has one can you please forward it to us. Thanks.

Some of my first and strongest memories from my childhood relate to cars. I still remember when things happened based on what car I was driving at the time. I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California and now live in Tennessee. I was a Corvette fanatic for years but then re-discovered vintage American Muscle. My wife, Katrina, and I decided we wanted to focus on unique and rare muscle cars. After a lot of research we fell in love with the Ford Blue Oval Aero Cars. These were only built in 1969 and and aerodynamics became an important part of winning races. The only purpose of these limited production cars was to win NASCAR races using the Boss 429 and 427 power plants complimented with a special, wind cheating, aerodynamic body. The Ford Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II are terrific and historic cars. This site is devoted to these car and their owners past and present. We provide an Online Registry for recording the long term history and ownership of every remaining Talladega, Spoiler and Spoiler II.

  1. Nice pictures and write up. I wish we could have been there to see everyone. Several cars and faces appear here that I don’t recognize from any of the previous events that we have been able to attend. I’m sure everyone had a great time. We will be looking forward to more pictures and stories!
