Update from Finland

The 1969 Ford and Mercury Aero cars may not be well know to all the GM and MOPAR car folks but the Ford gang is starting to catch on to their importance. As much as we think they are rare in the USA how likely are you to see one outside the States? We have several Team Members in Australia and New Zealand as well as Norway and Finland. A while back we gave you an update on the car in Finland. You will remember he is the one who showed us how to make a NASCAR style air cleaner. Recently, owner Harri Sorvisto sent us an update on his Cale Yarborough Spoiler II project.

It’s summer now in Finland and Harri is back to work getting his pride and joy ready to hit the roads. The Cale car was in need of some repairs and modifications. Probably the most scary thing was when the engine developed a knock. Fortunately for Harri is was only a broken intake seal. Replacing it was fist up on the list.
Now remember, he is not running a factory 351 in his Spoiler II with an FMX transmission. He has a strong 482 full aluminium FE stroker! He also adjusted all the rockers, the carb and did some minor repairs/adjustments to his FE motor, Tremec TKO 600 trans and Stange rear end.
The rack and pinion steering conversion also had developed a broken boot so that need to be replaced as well.
If you think it is difficult to find a side window glass for your car, he has been searching for 10 years for one in Finland. He finally found a new driver’s side door glass in the USA and now has it installed with new weatherstrips, moldings and new door seals. It was with great excitement that he was able to throw away that old ugly Plexiglas window he had been using all these years. The car’s exterior is now almost complete.
He is still desperately searching for a better Dash pad in either black or red. If you have one or know of one please contact Harri at harri.sorvisto@gmail.com.
To give his car an even more distinctive appearance on the Finland roads he has some authentic stickers from a local manufacturer who make them from some old Cale NASCAR pictures he provided them with. He just installed them before sending me the photos.
He is very proud of his big American iron and thinks the car now looks better than ever!
Congratulations Harri what a great ride, it must be a huge hit on the roads in Finland!
