1969 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler Spoiler II Press Release
Below is a very interesting Press Release dated December 30, 1968 from the Lincoln-Mercury Division of Ford Motor Company. Although it first appears to be for the 1969 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler it contains some additional information that gives a hint of things to come. The standard equipment includes a 351-4V engine but it also states it can be ordered with a “special aerodynamic front end“!
So does this mean that the Spoiler II we know was actually an option on the Spoiler? If so, it means it is an option that eliminated the possibility of other options. As I understand it, the Spoiler II designation was never used by Mercury in any of its paperwork.
Does anyone have any original records from that time that would clearly explain how buyer could order a Spoiler II? Which raises another question; could you order a Spoiler II or were they simply shipped out to select dealers to be sold?
