Oldies; Part One

You all know that we are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Aero Cars this year. I have previously asked for some old vintage photos of these cars and have had zero contributions. I have some of mine and some I got from Joe Machado several years ago. These give us a great window into the world of the Aero Cars back when they were new and when they were “slightly” used and or modified. There are also some photos of the cars when they were worn out or otherwise ready for the junk pile.
This will be a multi-part post. If you have some comparable photos please forward them to me at rfleener@comcast.net.
Thanks, and enjoy.

The pink II was mine.I owned that car for about 25 years. It’s an original DGS II and was blue and white when my friend Joe Machado found it on a used car lot in the L.A.area.I had it painted Moulin Rouge (Panther Pink),a 1970 Mopar color. In the late ’80’s or early ’90’s I stripped it to bare metal and had it painted black. It’s now owned by Mike Callahan in Cincinnati,Ohio. He’s taken the car to Bonneville twice and runa top speed of 164 mph.All on the low buck rebuild I did on that 351C 40ish years ago.
The orange T was mine,an original white car, orange when I bought it in ’79 or ’80.Fiberglass rear spoiler,428/C6.Sold in mid ’80’s to a guy from Pacifica, Ca. south of San Francisco.White when i sold it.
The T with lettering on the 1/4 panel and II stripes is still owned by Larry Reynolds, now of Quartz Hill,Ca. about 60 miles north east of L.A. I remember him being from Wisconsin where I believe he bought the car some 45(?) years ago.
I hope to visit with him and his son soon as his son Warren has a DGS II survivor. We were together at Willow Springs Raceway earlier this year.
The T has been sitting for many years and Warren is in the process of refurbishing the car.The II has been roadworthy for several years.
I have an autographed magazine article of the Moulin Rouge Spoiler II . Tom Wilson knows where the rolled car is .
