Talladega-Spoiler Quiz # 4

Question #3:
What was the correct paint color for the spoiler on the Mercury Spoiler and Spoiler II cars when they left the factory?
Answer #3:
Trick question; we are in the process of reproducing these spoilers. We obtained an original spoiler to work fromĀ and was very suprised to find that the spoilers were not painted when they left the factory. They were made of a dull black plastic and were unpainted. The pedestals are cast aluminum and were painted a flat black to match the spoiler. However, it is beliefed that some spoilers were painted to match the roof/trunk color of the cars at the dealerships before they were sold; red for Cale cars and blue for Gurney cars. Today most cars are restored and the spoilers have been repainted. It is also likely that as fragile as these are that even the spoilers on many original cars maybe repainted.
NOTE: Our reproduction spoiler will be available later this year and it will be painted and stronger than the originals.
Question #4:
What brand of car did Cale Yarborough drive in the 1969 NASCAR season?
I believe that Cale drove a Ford Talladega at the beginning of the 1969 season; although I think he also drove a Mercury Spoiler II at some point, as well.
Believe it was a Mercury as they were a couple of miles an hour faster than Ford because of little difference in aero dynamics
